ESL B --> SPLIT PEA DNA Extraction

It was a great week working with Mrs. Merrifield's ESL B class focusing on procedural readings.

Students worked to analyze an experimental procedure, identifying text features and discussing background related to DNA and cells. Students learned how to read a procedure and highlighted key action words within the experiment.

Students were able to complete the procedure 2 days in a row. Discussing possible errors and issues with the DNA extraction procedure, all students were able to physically see the DNA found in split peas.

It was a fun week working with the ESL students and incorporating scientific language into a fun reading activity.
